March 8, 2024 (RICHMOND, B.C.) – HME Home Health celebrated the immense contributions of Women in Leadership on Monday, March 4, 2024, at their inaugural Women in Leadership Event held at HME’s Richmond Corporate Office. The event was attended by women leaders from across the Health Care Industry. It included a panel discussion on the experiences and unique value women leaders bring to organizations, along with a networking social.
“Under the commitment and direction of HME’s founders Robert Boscacci, CEO, and Cameron Fleming, CIIO, HME has long led the home medical equipment industry in promoting and advancing female leadership within the company,” said Michelle Harvey, COO. “In an industry that has long been male-dominated, HME has routinely promoted female leaders to positions of authority, and that is seen from our leadership team, which is 80% female, down to our general employee base, which is 44% female company-wide.”
Kristy McMartin, HME’s Senior Manager of Compliance, noted, “HME believes in the strength of our team’s diversity and equity among all employees. HME has achieved – and surpassed – pay equity; females at HME have an average and median salary equal to, or higher than, our male employees in similar roles.”
“At HME, we believe that female employees bring strength and essential insight to all of our divisions,” said Shannon Comeault, Head of Operations. “That is why HME is one of the few medical equipment companies that employs multiple female technicians in our warehouses, including female warehouse managers.”
HME’s Head of Accounting, Flora Zhang, said, “It was wonderful to include all our female team members in our networking event. As our accounting team is over 70% female, it was a great opportunity for them to see women in our industry rising and being valued for their hard work.”
“It was wonderful to attend our inaugural Women in Leadership and hear the experiences, advice, and commitment that other female leaders in the Health Care Industry shared,” said Jake Yu, Manager of Corporate Programs. “The sharing of advice and the networking opportunity will allow myself and other female managers to bring ideas back to our teams to further the development of our female staff.”
“While HME has been a leader in female development, it was wonderful to see that our industry – and the greater Health Care Space is moving towards valuing female leadership in an impactful manner,” said Bharti Gounder, HME’s Client Services & Training Manager. “It is a bright future for our younger female team members.”
Bianca Hermoso, HME’s Victoria Fulfillment Manager, said, “As a woman in a traditionally male role – overseeing a warehouse and technicians – I was empowered and inspired by our event and look forward to similar events in coming years.”
Starting from a single operation in B.C.’s Lower Mainland a decade ago, HME has expanded aggressively across the province in recent years and today has seven locations and over 75,000 sq ft. of office and warehouse in Richmond, Victoria, Surrey, Nanaimo, North Vancouver, and Kelowna.
The company’s workforce is comprised of over 120 highly-trained professionals, technicians, and support staff.
HME Home Health offers a vast array of mobility and accessibility devices and medical equipment. Items include wheelchairs, power chairs, walkers, hospital beds, mattresses, other durable medical equipment, stairlifts, vertical platform lifts, ramps, and other installed products.
