September 28, 2023 (RICHMOND, B.C.) – In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, HME Home Health is proud to announce the donation of a large shipment of home medical equipment to the Bella Coola General Hospital.
The Bella Coola Valley, a remote northern B.C. community, is home to over 2,000 residents, the majority of whom are of First Nations Ancestry, in particular members of the Nuxalk Nation, on whose traditional lands the town and hospital reside.
“HME is committed to working closely with our First Nations Communities, on whose land we have the honour of operating our business on,” said Robert Boscacci, CEO and Co-Founder. “HME has had a long-standing working relationship with the Bella Coola General Hospital and the Nuxalk Nation, and we are proud to support local community members with this much-needed equipment.”
“All our staff complete cultural-sensitive care training that enlightens our diverse staff to the historical injustices that many First Nations communities have faced,” said Michelle Harvey, COO. “By actively participating in reconciliation efforts, such as this donation, it allows our staff to put into action what they have learned.”
“A key Tennent of HME’s reconciliation commitment is that we respect and take direction from First Nations Communities regarding the support and equipment that their community members may require,” said Cameron Fleming, CIIO and Co-Founder. “This donation is an active reflection of our commitment and will fill a direct need that the hospital has identified.”
“This past June, myself and my colleague Morgan Dobbs, had the honour of traveling to Bella Coola and being welcomed by the Bella Coola General Hospital staff and community members while providing medical equipment training and servicing,” said Brian Quach, Senior Sales Rep reflecting on his recent trip to Bella Coola. “Many times during our week in Bella Coola, Morgan and I caught ourselves telling each other just how nice and welcoming everyone was, so I’m thrilled that HME has been able to give back to the community with this generous donation.”
Shannon Comeault, Head of Operations, stated, “The shipment included multiple pieces of essential bathroom safety products, including shower chairs and stools, bath transfer benches, and commodes, along with multiple therapy items such as Bed Wedges and Therapy Balls, all items that will assist community members with safe recovery from illness and injury.”
Starting from a single operation in B.C.’s Lower Mainland a decade ago, HME has expanded aggressively across the province in recent years and today has seven locations and over 75,000 sq ft. of office and warehouse in Richmond, Victoria, Surrey, Nanaimo, North Vancouver, and Kelowna.
The company’s workforce is comprised of over 120 highly-trained professionals, technicians, and support staff.
HME Home Health offers a vast array of mobility and accessibility devices and medical equipment. Items include wheelchairs, power chairs, walkers, hospital beds, mattresses, other durable medical equipment, stairlifts, vertical platform lifts, ramps, and other installed products.
