Entrepreneurs of the Year 2016: Healthcare Services
Ernst & Young, the international audit and business-management services giant with offices in 150 countries around the globe – and regarded as one of the world’s ‘Big Four’ accounting firms – believes it is important to recognize and honour business entrepreneurs.
Known in recent years simply as E&Y, the firm annually recognizes business leaders who have achieved a stellar record of growth and success. In Canada, E&Y annually identifies entrepreneurs from five regions – Pacific, Prairies, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic – and salutes their accomplishments.
Cameron Fleming and Robert Boscacci, principals at Richmond-based HME Mobility and Accessibility, recently were acknowledged by E&Y as outstanding examples of business leadership in the Pacific Region – as finalists in the ‘Entrepreneurs of the Year 2016: Healthcare Services’ category.
The pair, both of whom have accounting backgrounds, purchased HME several years ago when it had just eight staff members working at a single outlet. Today, the company has three locations – the head office in Richmond, along with new operations in Victoria and Surrey – and upwards of 45 employees. For the last 5 years, HME has grown over 300%, including building one of the largest stairlift divisions in Canada.
“We are thrilled that E&Y deemed as meritorious the success Robert and I have worked for over the last number of years,” said Fleming. “It is one thing for us to grow our business and increase sales and staff over time, but to be recognized for our accomplishments by a firm with E&Y’s reputation really is special.”
Boscacci echoed that sentiment, saying he was delighted that HME’s growth and expansion were viewed as noteworthy by Canada’s business community.
“Cameron and I have worked very hard, as have all of our staff and colleagues, to make HME successful,” said Boscacci. “And to have our business peers take note of our success is very encouraging: it means we are on the right track and moving forward in the right direction.”
HME is British Columbia’s largest retailer of home-medical equipment. The company offers a full complement of mobility aids, including wheelchairs, walkers and scooters, as well as stairlifts, bathroom-safety equipment and hospital beds, plus much, much more.
